Over 56% of South Sudan facing acute food insecurity
1 day ago254 readers
According to the latest UN estimates, over 56% of South Sudan's population, approximately 7.3 million people out of 13 million inhabitants, are currently experiencing acute food insecurity. The situation results from the resumption of fighting and the collapse of the 2018 peace agreement, with a real risk of famine in four counties. The World Food Programme (WFP) needs $266 million to intensify its operations, but currently has insufficient resources to assist all 7.8 million people in need. The food crisis is also worsening due to the impact of the regional war on fuel costs and international funding.
