Historic Trial Against Assad Regime Perpetrators Begins in Syria
1 day ago228 readers
For the first time, perpetrators of the Assad regime are standing trial in Syria. A notorious general, Atef Najib, who is a cousin of deposed dictator Bashar al-Assad, is being prosecuted for massacres and violent suppression of peaceful protests in Daraa in 2011. Over 100,000 people remain missing following the regime's fall, and new mass graves continue to be discovered. Syria's new administration is facing criticism for slow legal proceedings, and there is uncertainty about which other officials will be held accountable for war crimes.
