WHO Director's Final Day of Visit to DRC with President Tshisekedi

The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, concludes his visit to the Democratic Republic of the Congo on June 1st with a meeting with President Félix Tshisekedi in Kinshasa. After several days in the country, including time in Bunia, the epicentre of the Ebola outbreak, Ghebreyesus presented a united front with Congolese authorities despite initial tensions over WHO communications. Encouraging developments, such as patient recoveries and the opening of a treatment centre by Doctors Without Borders, helped ease tensions. The WHO Director is expected to renew his support for affected populations and call for greater international solidarity to fulfil aid commitments.
