Daily pill doubles survival time for pancreatic cancer patients
about 10 hours ago248 readers
A new drug called daraxonrasib has shown breakthrough results in treating advanced pancreatic cancer, doubling average survival time from 6.6 months to 13.2 months in a trial of 500 patients. The pill works by targeting and disabling the mutated KRAS gene found in over 90% of pancreatic tumours, helping prevent cancer spread. Beyond extending survival, the drug caused fewer severe side effects than traditional chemotherapy, with only 43.6% of patients experiencing severe side effects compared to 57.5% on chemotherapy. Experts describe the results as landscape-changing for metastatic pancreatic cancer patients with KRAS mutations.
